Fort Defiance Indian Hospital Board, Inc.

Fort Defiance Indian Hospital is a state-of-the-art rural healthcare facility spanning 245,000 square feet. Opened in August 2002, it serves the Navajo Nation and surrounding communities from its location in the scenic high-desert region of Northeastern Arizona—just eight miles north of Window Rock, the capital of the Navajo Nation. The hospital operates a 24/7 Community Emergency Department and is licensed for 56 inpatient beds, including specialized units for Intensive Care, Medical-Surgical, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, and Adolescent Psychiatric Care.

Our Ambulatory Care Center features 65 exam rooms and a 24-chair Dental Clinic, which together supported over 235,000 outpatient visits in 2004. Today, Fort Defiance Indian Hospital employs more than 850 dedicated staff members. Adjacent to the facility is a newly developed 193-unit government housing area, with public elementary, middle, and high schools located within walking distance—ranging from 300 feet to half a mile.

The region’s climate and landscape offer ideal conditions for outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, skiing, stargazing, and horseback riding. At Fort Defiance Indian Hospital, we are committed to delivering exceptional continuity of care and fostering a collaborative, culturally grounded environment. Thank you for considering career opportunities with us—we look forward to welcoming compassionate professionals who share our mission.
