The purposes of the Social Work Advancement Team (SWAT) are multifaceted and pivotal to the growth and cohesion of the social work community at the ASU West Valley Campus. These purposes include:

a) Bringing focus to the diverse perspectives and innovative ideas presented by the students of social work and related fields. By highlighting these views, SWAT ensures that all voices are heard and considered, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment.

b) Advancing the causes and values of the School of Social Work on the West Valley Campus. SWAT plays a crucial role in promoting the core principles and mission of the school, driving forward initiatives that align with its goals and vision.

c) Providing social work majors with opportunities to connect with community leaders within the profession. This outreach not only enhances students’ professional networks but also offers them valuable insights and mentorship from experienced practitioners in the field.

d) Educating the student body, staff, and faculty at ASU West Valley about the study, practices, and profession of social work. Through various programs and events, SWAT aims to raise awareness and understanding of the critical role social work plays in society, thereby fostering campus-wide appreciation and support for the discipline.

Elaborating on its importance, SWAT serves as a vital platform for student engagement and professional development. By bringing attention to diverse viewpoints, it encourages a culture of dialogue and innovation. Advancing the school’s causes ensures that the social work program remains dynamic and responsive to contemporary challenges. Connecting students with community leaders bridges the gap between academic learning and real-world application, enriching the educational experience. Finally, educating the broader campus community about social work helps build a supportive environment that values and respects the contributions of social workers, ultimately benefiting both the campus and the larger community.
